Program

The Assam Child & Women’s Welfare Society (ACWWS) runs a range of community-focused programs dedicated to the protection, rehabilitation, and empowerment of children, women, and persons with special needs. Each initiative addresses a unique social concern from providing shelter and care to supporting families, promoting education, and ensuring the rights and dignity of vulnerable groups.

SHISHU GREH- Specialized Adoption Agency

Shishu Greh was started by ACWWS in the year 2004 under the recommendation of Department of Social Welfare, Govt. of Assam and was recognized by Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) under the M/O WCD, Govt. of India. In 2010 Shishu Greh was merged as Specialized Adoption Agency under Iniegrated Child Protection Services (ICPS) by the M/O Women and Child Development, Govt. of India. This is a home for abandoned, surrendered and orphan children of age group 0 (zero) to 6 (six) years of age and to rehabilitate them in Incountry and Inter country adoption through legal procedure laid down at Adoption Regulations 2022 and Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, 2015.

A cradle is set up just outside the gate of Shishu Greh to enable safe abandonment of babies by their biological parents or guardians who may not wish to appear before the Child Welfare Committee for relinquishing the children.The cradle is accompanied by a bell,which a person can ring to notify the authorities at the premises after dropping of the baby.

MON ASHANEER- Early Intervention for Children with Disabilities in Community

Established on 16 August 2025, Mon Ashaneer is a Early Intervention for Children with Disabilities in Community dedicated to serving children and young adults aged 3 to 21 years with special needs, completely free of cost. We cater to children with intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, autism, and Down syndrome, providing a range of services to support their growth and development. At Mon Ashaneer, children can benefit from occupational therapy to develop daily living skills, speech therapy to enhance communication, and physiotherapy to improve mobility and overall health.

We also provide documentation support to assist families with necessary records and certifications for education, health, and rehabilitation. Alongside these services, we promote independence, life skills, and confidence, while supporting families and caregivers through guidance and awareness programs. Mon Ashaneer strives to create an inclusive environment where every child feels valued and empowered, ensuring they receive the care, therapies, and assistance they need to thrive in their community.

KALYANI NIWAS - Children Home for Girls

Kalyani Niwas is a children’s home for girls, established in 2007 to support needy and destitute girls aged 6 to 18 years. The project was initially implemented with financial support from the Tata Durabji Trust, Mumbai. In 2019, it was merged with ICPS and registered under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. Kalyani Niwas admits destitute girls based on orders from the Child Welfare Committee.

Over the past years, Kalyani Niwas has been dedicated to the upliftment of deprived girls, successfully preserving the golden period of their childhood. Over these seventeen years, Kalyani Niwas has dealt with numerous cases, including child labor, trafficking, runaway children, missing children, orphans, abandoned children, mentally ill children, children with hearing and speech impairments, and cases of child marriage.

ASHANEER- Home for Special Need Children

ACWWS started “Ashaneer”, a home for special-needs girl children aged 6–18 years in 2022. The home is located at Sewa Mandir Path, Rupnagar, Guwahati-32. It is recognized by the State Child Protection Society, Assam, under the Integrated Child Protection Services. Ashaneer provides shelter and care to girls with disabilities who are orphaned, abandoned, or surrendered. It offers services to children with autism, Down syndrome, intellectual disabilities, blindness, hearing and speech impairments, cerebral palsy, and other conditions.

Ashaneer Home for Special Needs Children with Disabilities provides a nurturing environment where these children can thrive. By offering shelter and care, the home plays a crucial role in supporting the community. Through specialized care and support, Ashaneer enhances the quality of life for these children and empowers them to become more integrated into society.

Through education, therapy, and skill-building activities, the home equips these children with the tools they need to lead fulfilling lives. Additionally, by raising awareness about disabilities and promoting inclusivity, Ashaneer fosters a more compassionate and understanding community. As a result, it not only positively impacts the lives of the children it serves but also contributes to building a more empathetic and supportive society.

AFTER CARE PROGRAM

In 2016, ACWWS facilitated an After Care Services Programme for children who had turned 18. Various income-generating skill development training programmes were organized for the children of Kalyani Niwas and Ashaneer home for special need children, providing them with opportunities to become financially independent and self-reliant.

In 2021, the Assam State Child Protection Society introduced the After Care Services Programme under ICPS for children who completed 18 years of age. Since then, many children have been enrolled in the programme to secure their future. To date, 28 girls have benefited from the After Care Services Programme, which has significantly contributed to their personal and professional growth.

"PRAPTI"- A VOCATIONAL UNIT– Empowering the Community through Skills

Located at Sewa Mandir Path, Rupnagar, Guwahati- 32, the PRAPTI Vocational Unit is an independent initiative established in 2024 by ACWWS, dedicated to empowering young girls from the community. Currently, 21 girls from the surrounding areas are availing of free vocational training in practical and creative skills such as embroidery, stitching, bakery, cooking, dhoop making, and handcrafted diyas. The unit aims to equip participants with abilities that can help them pursue employment, develop small businesses, or enhance self-reliance, fostering confidence and independence.

In addition to community training, in-house classes are arranged for the children of Ashaneer Home for Special Needs and Kalyani Niwas, ensuring a holistic learning environment that combines skill-building with personal growth. All programs at PRAPTI Vocational Unit are completely free of cost, making skill development accessible to all.

SHETER FOR URBAN HOMELESS - Male Shelter

The project, “Shelter for Urban Homeless for Males”, has been operational since June 2019, offering a safe haven for homeless and vulnerable men. Located at House No. 01, Vaishnav Devi Path, near Modern High School, Geetanagar, Mathgharia, Guwahati-20, the shelter provides essential services such as food, clean water, and sanitation facilities.

In addition to basic care, the shelter focuses on rehabilitation by offering counseling and connecting residents to skill development and livelihood opportunities. It also conducts awareness programmes across Guwahati City, advocating for the rights of the urban homeless and encouraging community participation to address homelessness. This initiative plays a crucial role in providing immediate relief and long-term solutions, helping individuals rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society.

FAMILY COUNSELLING CENTRE (FCC)

Founded in 1999, the Family Counseling Centre (FCC) of the Assam Child and Women Welfare Society (ACWWS) at Sewa Mandir Path, Rupnagar, has been a safe space for families going through difficult times. Whether it’s conflict in marriage, domestic issues, or emotional distress, our trained counselors help individuals and families find calm, clarity, and understanding.

Beyond one-on-one counseling, we reach out to the community through awareness programmes and legal literacy sessions, helping people know their rights and encouraging respectful, healthy relationships within families. For over two decades, FCC has quietly stood beside hundreds of families; guiding them toward healing, hope, and harmony.
